Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior representative said the incident left him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
