Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
